Privacy Policy

Effective: 2026-08-17

This privacy policy describes how the SBF Navigator app handles your data.

1. Controller

The controller for data processing in connection with this app within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is: Vincent Wälken Meldorfer Straße 8 20251 Hamburg Germany Email: support@smartappsdigital.de

2. General information

This privacy policy applies to all users of the SBF Navigator app. The app only processes data that is stored locally on your device. No personal data is transmitted to me or to any third party. The app requires no user account and no registration. The entire question catalogue ships inside the app. Learning, exam mode and the navigation tasks need no internet connection; the app contacts no server for them. The app is designed so that only the data strictly necessary to provide its features is processed (“privacy by design”).

3. Which data is processed?

3.1 Local app data (on your device)

The app stores the following information exclusively on your device in a local SQLite database: – which questions you answered and whether they were correct or wrong – your progress per question (streak of correct answers, correct/wrong counts, time of the last answer) – your exam attempts including result, duration and time – bookmarks you set – your progress in the navigation tasks – the number of questions answered on a given day (for the free daily allowance) – app settings (e.g. selected certificate, appearance, reminder time) – whether Premium has been unlocked This data is used solely to provide the app's features (e.g. repeating questions you answered incorrectly, progress display and statistics). This data never leaves your device.

3.2 No user profiling

No personal profiles are created. The app uses neither registration nor a login system; I cannot link the learning data to any specific person.

4. Permissions & access to device data

Depending on use, certain permissions may be requested. These permissions are used exclusively for the purposes stated below.

4.1 Local storage

The app stores your learning progress and settings locally in an app-specific storage area on your device. Nothing is transmitted to a server.

4.2 Notifications

If you enable the study reminder, the app requests notification permission. These reminders are scheduled and triggered exclusively on the device. No push service is used, and no device tokens are created or transmitted. You can disable notifications at any time in the app or in your device's system settings.

4.3 Internet connection

An internet connection is only needed for the optional Premium purchase and its restoration, and when you tap through to an external website (e.g. elwis.de) from within the app. Studying itself works entirely offline.

5. In-app purchases (Google Play Billing & Apple App Store)

The app offers optional paid features (“Premium”) as a one-time purchase. Payment is handled exclusively by the respective app store (Google Play Store on Android, Apple App Store on iOS). As part of the purchase, Google and Apple process payment and transaction data (e.g. payment details, order numbers or purchase status) under their own responsibility. I receive no access to payment data or personal information. The app only receives the technical information from the store as to whether a purchase completed successfully, in order to unlock the Premium features. This information is stored locally on the device so that Premium also applies offline. The privacy policies of the following also apply: Google: policies.google.com/privacy Apple: apple.com/legal/privacy/

6. No disclosure to third parties

No data is passed on to third parties. In particular: – no advertising networks are used – no analytics or tracking services are integrated (e.g. Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics) – no advertising IDs are read – no data is shared with other companies or organisations

7. Legal basis for processing

Data is processed on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (performance of a contract), insofar as the data is required to provide the app's features. Use of the app is voluntary.

8. Retention & deletion

All data is stored exclusively on your device. You can delete it at any time by: – resetting your learning progress in the app's settings, – resetting the app data in your device's system settings, or – uninstalling the app Once the app is uninstalled, all locally stored data is removed. Your Premium purchase is unaffected and can be recovered at any time via “Käufe wiederherstellen” (Restore purchases) using the same store account.

9. Your rights

Insofar as personal data within the meaning of the GDPR is processed, you have the following rights: – right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) – right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) – right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) – right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) – right to object (Art. 21 GDPR) – right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) Because the app transmits no data to me and stores everything locally, you can exercise most of these rights directly through the app's settings or your device settings (resetting app data or uninstalling). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of personal data infringes the GDPR.

10. Note on the content

SBF Navigator is a private, unofficial study app. It is not affiliated with the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration, the Deutscher Motoryachtverband (DMYV) or the Deutscher Segler-Verband (DSV). Questions, answers and navigation tasks are taken from the official question and answer catalogue for the German recreational boating licence (as of 1 August 2023), published by the Generaldirektion Wasserstraßen und Schifffahrt. Source: www.elwis.de. The terms of use published there permit reuse, including commercial reuse, as long as the content remains unaltered and the source is cited. Both conditions are met here. All information is provided without warranty; only the official publications are binding.

11. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be adapted if the app or the underlying legal framework changes. The current version is always available at this URL.
